About Course

Overview The OTHM Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provides learners with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to promote positive learning outcomes and environments for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Through the programme, learners explore how to analyse and implement pedagogical theories and frameworks for SEND, apply specialist action learning techniques in their subject specialism, and manage both positive and disruptive behaviours in a learning environment — ensuring purposeful outcomes for all learners with SEND.

  • Guided Learning Hours: Minimum 100 hours

Assessment All units are internally assessed and internally quality assured by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. Assessment is by written assignments. No exams.

  • Academic integrity must be maintained at all times
  • A computer or device with internet access is required for online learners

Progression and Career Outcomes Career pathways include SEND teacher, specialist support practitioner, learning disability educator, SEND coordinator (SENCo), inclusion support lead and disability support adviser in further education colleges, schools, specialist provision and local authority SEND services. Equivalent to Year 2 of a UK Bachelor’s degree — progression to Year 3 (final year top-up) at UK universities.
