About Course

Overview The OTHM Level 4 Certificate in Learning, Development and Pedagogy is a teaching qualification with a teaching/training practice requirement, designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers or trainers in England. It is an ‘in-service’ qualification — all learners must have access to a minimum of 36 hours of teaching practice with at least three observed teaching sessions totalling a minimum of three hours. The qualification develops the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to plan and deliver effective learning programmes, develop resources, negotiate individual goals, apply a range of teaching and learning strategies, and critically evaluate and improve subject-specific pedagogical practice.

Total Course Duration

  • Flexible delivery (part-time and distance learning available)
  • Total Qualification Time: 360 hours
  • Guided Learning Hours: Minimum 125 hours
  • Teaching practice requirement: minimum 36 hours with at least 3 observed sessions

Assessment All units are internally assessed and internally quality assured by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. Assessment includes written assignments and teaching practice observations. No exams.

Requirements/Instructions

  • Learners must arrange and complete a minimum of 36 hours teaching practice with at least 3 observed sessions (minimum 3 hours total observation)
  • All assignments must be submitted by the deadlines provided
  • Academic integrity must be maintained at all times
  • A computer or device with internet access is required for online learners

Progression and Career Outcomes Career pathways include further education lecturer, trainer, vocational tutor, apprenticeship trainer, corporate learning and development specialist and education programme coordinator. Progression may be made onto further OTHM teaching and education qualifications.
